Bordeaux Selections

There is no substitute for luxury.
Sometimes you just have to have the very best wines money can buy, that's why Abarbanel is importing an amazing array of small production prestige wines from the world's most famous wine region -- Bordeaux.

Chateau Roc de Boissac St. Emilion

Chateau Roc de Boissac’s vineyards encompasses 48 hectares (about 188 acres) in the heart of Puisseguin Saint Emilion, Lalande de Pomerol and Lussac Saint Emilion, and has been producing world acclaimed wines since the 19th Century. The name Chtaeu Roc de Boissac on a bottle of wine is a solid guarantee of quality. Each vintage since 1994 has been honored with medals at major French wine comPetiteions and praised in the famous Le Guide Hachette, one of France’s preeminent wine guides.

For Chateau Roc de Boissac’s St. Emilion, the vineyard is 12 south-facing hectares (about 29 acres) all in one block in Puisseguin Saint Emilion. The soil is comprised of silt, clay and sand. The vineyard is planted 75 percent in Merlot, 10 percent in Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 percent in Cabernet Franc. Total production is 85,000 bottles per year with the kosher production representing about 10 percent of that. The wines are aged 12 months in French Oak Barrels. The wines are aged in cellars hollowed out of solid rock.

This is one of the best Bordeaux wines. Period. Primarily comprised of Merlot with Cabernet Franc blended in -- this is a wine of superior smoothness. Light and fruity, you must "get a piece of the Roc."

St. Emilion is one of France's "big four" wine districts. This wine can be consumed young but it should be uncorked at least 40 minutes prior to consumption to allow the wine to reach its potential. Serve with beef, lamb, veal or poultry -- but good food, please! We’re shipping the 2004 vintage which may be aged, but again, in a cool, dark and dry place. If you have the 2000 vintage, drink it now. The 2002 can age for another few years. Non-Mevushal. O-U Certified.

Chateau du Quint Pomerol

Chateau du Quint (Pomerol) is a luscious blend of 60 percent Merlot, 30 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 percent Cabernet Franc. The less than 10 acres of the Chateau du Quint situated right near the village of Pomerol, are blessed by the superior gravel and sandy soil which is ubiquitous to France's central Bordeaux region. The Pomerol appellation is world famous for producing some of the world’s most outstanding Merlot grapes and Merlot-based wines. The vineyards are planted half in Merlot and half in Cabernet Franc. Production is 45,000 bottles annually with the kosher production around 15 percent of that. Chateau du Quint is owned by Chateau Roc de Boissac (see above) and the winemakers from de Boissac supervise everything at Chateau du Quint.

Smooth and tender with complex aromas, this wine may be enjoyed young (because of it’s Merlot base) or can age quite well for several years, providing it is stored correctly. Please uncork at least 30 minutes before serving (a good idea with all high quality red wines). We’re shipping the 2004 vintage which is non-Mevushal and O-U Certified. Grab this wine while it lasts, because kosher Pomerol is produced in very limited quantities and Chateau du Quint is the very best in a very small field. 2000 and 2002 vintages should be drunk now.
