New for Passover 2008
Abarbanel Bordeaux Portfolio ReturnsMargaux, Pomerol and St. EmilionAs a consequence of much consumer demand, Abarbanel has brought back its top wines from France's Bordeaux region. Returning are Chateau Haut Breton Larigaudiere from the Margaux region, one of the kosher world's most sophisticated and elegant red wines; Chateau Roc de Boissac from St. Emilion which is a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and Chateau du Quint from the Pomerol region - home to the world's most esteemed Merlot vineyards. All wines have been aged in French Oak Barrels and are made in the classic Old World style. All Bordeaux wines are non-Mevushal and cellar-worthy. The Margaux is the 2002 vintage and the St. Emilion and Pomerol are 2004. Also returning for Passover is the unparalleled Champagne from Heidsieck Monopole - one of France's top Champagne houses. Non-vintage and non-Mevushal, this is perhaps the world's most elegant kosher cuvee brut. Layla Vineyards Reintroduced for PassoverNew Pinot Noir from Argentina’s Mendoza Valley
Abarbanel is proud to announce the return of its popular Layla Vineyards wines from South America. Produced in Argentina's prestigious Mendoza Valley from mature vineyards at least 35 years old, these wines are the paradigm of New World winemaking. All Layla wines are Mevushal, 2006 vintage and are certified by the O-K. Grapes for new Layla Pinot Noir come from the Agrelo vineyards in Mendoza's Luján de Cuyo sub-appellation. The vineyard is at 980 meters above sea level and is fed by drip irrigation. The vines are 35 years old and everything is hand harvested at night and placed in 20 kg. baskets. The wine itself is supple and smooth, medium-bodied with notes of blueberries and blackberries. The return of Layla Malbec has been well worth the wait. This wine has a nice balance between tannins, fruitiness and acidity and tastes like a cross between Merlot and Cabernet. The grapes come from the Vistalba Vineyards, Luján de Cuyo sub-appellation of the Mendoza Valley grown high at 1,100 meters and the vines are 45 years old. Layla Cabernet Sauvignon returns in a semi-sweet profile with higher levels of residual sugar retained by freezing the fermentation. Grapes are grown in the Maipu sub-appellation of Mendoza at an 970 meter elevation. A delightful new twist on Cabernet. Both wines are hard harvested at night.
New Byblos Semi-Dry Cabernet
Full of extra-ripe, jammy plum fruit, Byblos introduces their first semi-dry Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown in the Chacras de Coria Vineyards of the Luján de Cuyo sub-appellation of Argentina's Mendoza Valley at 1,000 meters above sea level from 30 year-old vines, Byblos Cabernet is great with steaks, lamb, veal or any kind of red meat. Mevushal, O-K Certified. 2006 vintage. This wine joins Byblos' other reds, Dry and Sweet Bonarda and their recently released Chardonnay. All produced at Argentina's first exclusively kosher winery.
